Breed Name: Australian Terrier
Country of Origin: Australia
Height:
The average height is 10 - 11 inches
Weight:
Most Australian Terriers weigh around the 15 lbs mark
Temperament:
Australian Terriers are very small, intelligent, spirited and alert dogs that take to any environment very well. They therefore make very good house dogs in both the cities and in rural areas although their spirited nature takes some getting used to. They also like to be in the company of humans and are good companion dogs.
Colors:
The Australian Terrier usually comes in four colours, sandy, tan, blue and red although only red and sandy dogs come solid colored.
Other information:
The Australian Terriers are descended from the different small terrier breeds that were taken to Australia and include the Cairn Terrier, Skye Terrier, Yorkshire and Irish Terriers, the Dandie Dinmont Terriers and others. They were very good at keeping rats and snakes out of the property and became invaluable to the Australian cattlemen when they were working stock. They are small yet hardy and are very bossy for such a small dog. Care needs to be taken in households with other pets as these dogs can be very troublesome with other animals.
At Poochieheaven we carry Australian Terrier Dog Carriers, Australian Terrier Dog Clothing, and Toys for Australian Terriers.
