Bissell Helps People Put Adoption First

Posted by Briana Graber on

Bissell Pet Foundation is an organization founded in 2011 by Cathy Bissell and devoted to encouraging people to choose adoption first and help out shelters.  The raise money for shelters and sponsor events like "Empty the Shelters" which are adoption days where Bissell covers all adoption fees for the day in order to "encourage prospective pet owners to choose adoption."  Adoption is a great alternative to purchasing pets from pet stores.  It can be far less expensive and  helps a pet whose gone through some rough spots in life to find a forever home, a cause always worth supporting.  Just between 2001 and 2015 the organization donated over $2 million for animal shelters, adoption, and protections for pets, and it has only grown since, having donated an additional million in only the year and a half since.

Robinson's Rescue, an organization devoted to providing low-income pet owners with free spay and neuter services as part of a greander effort to reduce the number of stray animals, and hopefully make animal shelters a seldom-needed service, recently received $3,950 towards their efforts from the Bissell Foundation.  The Hickman Humane Society in Tennessee also received money from them recently: $7,000 to "help prevent overpopulation while helping residents facing economic hardship" since abandoned pets and litters is an unfortunately common occurrence in the area.

Soon (March 18th)The Bissell Pet Foundation will be running one of it's famous "Empty the Shelters" event in Northern California.  They will be covering the fees for over twenty animal shelters and rescues for the day.  The shelters and foundation anticipate hundreds of pets be adopted into their forever homes and over a thousand are available for adoption.  If you're in the area and thinking about a pet, this is the time to do it!  Some pet is out there looking for someone to love forever, might as well be you.
