Trump and the Presidential Pup

Posted by Briana Graber on

In exactly one week Donald Trump will be inaugurated as President.  Turns out, as well as breaking a lot of other Presidential norms, President Trump might be the first pet-less president in 150 years.  Not all of those pets have been pooches, in fact, Teddy Roosevelt had quite the eclectic collection of everything from a pony name Algonquin, to a one-legged rooster, to a hyena.  But every president for the past century and a half has had some sort of pet while in the White House.

Now, as beloved as pets are, its certainly not necessary for every president, or every person, to have one.  Even Truman, though, who reportedly disliked dogs, said "You want a friend in Washington?  Get a dog."

It'll be a tough battle ahead, and a furry friend might be good to have at hand for companionship, and, if we're being honest, public image as well.  Image is important.  Whether you're president or applying for your first job, but especially if you're president coming out of one of the most controversial campaigns and elections in recent history.  It certainly wouldn't hurt to have an pup to endear the public to his side.

But regardless, pets don't have to be for everyone.  Donations or support for various pet and wildlife supporting agencies could probably do the trick just as well, and hey, those benefit our feather and our four-legged friends all over, instead of just one lucky duck (or one-legged rooster - who knows?).
