Bri's Weekly Top Three 10.20.16

Posted by Briana Graber on

So, it was another week of all costumes, and while I love it, I'm sure its getting a little tiresome.  Fear not!  I've wrapped up costumes for the year (except for a stray one here or there as they relate to the coming holidays) so next week I suspect I'll manage to put together a list of my favorites that contains no costumes.  Give you all a little breather.

Anyway, here's my favorite three items from this week.

First, I really enjoyed a Zack & Zoey Spider Princess costume I worked with this week.  I love the vibrant shade of green (or at least, I do in relation to Halloween themed things) and the spiderweb tulle over the skirt of the dress.  Part of me wondered if maybe I could make a human version for myself.  Possibly, my sewing skills are passable-but I certainly couldn't recreate the dog version.  All the little details on an already scaled down garment just sound like too much work.  The spider wings on the back are also a creative feature.  This isn't based on anything, so no one was there telling the designers they had to put wings on, the bright green gown and spiderweb tulle probably would've been enough.  Instead, they went the extra mile and rethought a spider to create a pair of spooktacular wings for the gown.  I'd certainly feel like the Princess of Halloween in this dress.

Next is a two-fer. The Mickey and Minnie Mouse costumes.  Maybe it's just 'cause I'm a Disney fan, but I think these costume adaptions are just adorable.  Something about those classic red polka-dot skirt and bow just steal my heart, and is it just me, or does the Mickey costume look like it'd make a fantastic cozy sweater?  While you can't have a Mickey or Minnie costume really without the ears, I still love seeing them on costumes.  It brings me right back to Saturday mornings in front of the TV as a kid.

Last, I was about ready to purchase this Sherlock Hound costume from Puppe Love for myself.  Both the costume itself-which has a tremendous of detail, and also from the description.  Whoever wrote that description for them clearly was a Sherlock fan and just having fun with it.  Nothing sells me more than a person who clearly enjoys what they do, and despite the fact that I'm currently lacking furry companionship, they still had me about ready to make a purchase anyway.  Not to mention the pup in the picture looks amazing.  If I get a pet that's okay with being dressed up, this might become a future investment.

That's hopefully it on the costumes for a while.  Next week I'll try and add a little variety for you.

So bear with me, I worked almost exclusively with costumes this week, so two out of my three top items are costumes.  Plus, Halloween's still coming up, and I do love the season.  And I suppose you could argue that only one of the three is actually a costume...I'll start with that one.One of the [...]
